3lb. Polyurethane Pour Foam Instructions
Here are some instructions for using two-component Polyurethane foam:
- Safety Equipment: The fresh foam is very sticky, so wear gloves and eye protection. (Use tools that can handle up to 130° Fahrenheit)
- Ventilate the work area: Use the foam in a well-ventilated area.
- Mix the foam: Mix equal parts A and B by volume at a temperature of 75–80° F. Mix well for 25 seconds using a drill head or stir stick. The foam should be well mixed.
- Pour the foam: Pour the foam immediately after mixing. The foam will start expanding in 10–20 seconds and continue to expand for 1-2 minutes.
- Allow the foam to cool: Allow the foam to cool between layers to avoid excessive heat and permit maximum expansion. Allow 30-60 minutes for foam to set.
Troubleshooting
Q.) Foam is crunchy and brittle - (A.) foam is too cold or off-ratio via more part A
Q.) Foam is soft and squishy - (A.) Foam off-ratio, heavy part B
Q.) Foam surface is bubbly & porous after pull - (A.) Incompatible mold release. [Wax based release recommended]
Notes
- While the pour foam is sticky; Have cleaning supplies such as acetone and lacquer thinner ready for when you are done pouring. You will want to clean up the foam when it is still liquid. Once it is fully cured it is extremely difficult to clean up.
- Foam can be dyed different colors using compatible pigments.
